General Secondary

The French-speaking Sub-system

SECONDE A (Equivalence of form five in literature and languages in the English-speaking sub-system)

In this series, literature is the dominant subject. It gives access to the probatoire (No equivalence) and Baccalauréat A1, A2, A3, A4 and A5 (the equivalent of the GCE A level) in the French-speaking sub-system: Literature and Philosophy. The student who chooses to study literature must have literary skills (rich vocabulary, good oral and written expression skills, good general knowledge). He should also be interested in history, geography and languages.

Nevertheless, there are differences between the series presented in the summary table below:

SPECIFICITIES RELATED TO EACH SERIES

Seconde C (Equivalence of Form five science class with mathematics and physics as major).

The teaching is predominantly in science subjects and leads to the Baccalauréat C (mathematics / physics), the equivalence of GCE A level in mathematics and physics. Students who choose this series must not only be good in mathematics but must also be highly interested in hard sciences, the method and sense of organization. After the seconde C (or Form five in mathematics and physics), the student has the opportunity to move to premièré C or D (or the equivalence of lower sixth in this series).

The premièré C (equivalence of lower sixth in mathematics and physics) prepares the student towards the Baccalauréat C (the equivalence of GCE A level in mathematics and physics) while the ‘première D’ or lower sixth in mathematics, biology and geology) prepares the student for the Baccalauréat D with a focus on mathematics, biology and geology.
